Authorship

 The International Committee of Medical Journals Editors (ICMJE) recommends that authorship should be based on four  criterio. These include:

  1. Making significant contributions to the conception, design, acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work;
  2. Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content;
  3. Giving final approval of the version to be published
  4. Agreeing to take responsibility for all aspects of the work to ensure that questions related to accuracy or integrity are thoroughly investigated and resolved.

All those designated as authors should meet all four criteria for authorship, and all who meet the four criteria should be identified as authors. Transparency about the contributions is encouraged clearly indicating the contribution of each author.

Contributors who meet fewer than all 4 of the above criteria for authorship should not be listed as authors, but they should be acknowledged.
